“Jim, would you mind explaining just who the hell this kid is and how he got on the ship!?” McCoy gestured to the small Vulcan boy shyly wrapped around his leg, gripping his pant leg like a lifeline.
Kirk raised an amused brow and glanced over to Lt. Saavik, who remained as stone faced as ever. “I’m actually quite surprised, Bones. You don’t recognize Commander Spock?”
McCoy’s eyes darted between the tiny Vulcan tenderly hugging his leg to Jim’s smug face. He stared at the Captain incredulously, doubting every word.
“We all know that I’m the last person Spock would run to.” He quipped, knowing damn well that Spock would sooner berate him with logic than, well, this.
“And yet, there he is, clinging to your thigh like you’re a big teddy bear. Do us all a favor, would you? Watch over him for us while we figure this mess out.” And with that, the crew went back to their stations, playfully ignoring McCoy’s protests.
Heaving a sigh of defeat, the doctor tucked his hands under Spock’s arms and hoisted him up onto his hip.
“Dammit, Jim! I’m a doctor, not a babysitter!” McCoy spat before leaving in a huff, Spock’s tiny face peering over his shoulder as he made his way to his office.
